A note about flax (and walnuts, and other non-animal sources): they don't have the same type of omega-3s as fish oil. They contain alpha linoleic acid (ALA), not EPA or DHA, and thus don't have the benefits of fish oil. The body can covert ALA to the others, but it's very inefficient: 5% - 20%, with the higher end generally for women of child-bearing age. ALA is good for skin (and maybe cholesterol), but a poor choice for inflammation.

I like taking GNC's Triple Strength Fish Oil caps, as they have 900mg of omega-3s per pill and are coated to reduce the likelihood of fishy burps. (No, I don't work for GNC.)

SHOULD be 1-1 or 2-1, in the Western Diet normally 20-1 or something equally silly.

Pumpkin Seeds & Flax oil are 2 good forms of it to start putting into your nutrition.

I've been using 10X1 gram dose for fish oil caps for a long time now. I've noticed that I probably don't get a whole lot of omega 3 fatty acids from my diet (except for an occasional meal consisting of salmon). My question is how important is the ratio between omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids? Are there any studies out there indicating what would be a good ball park figure? 1:1? 2:1? Something else?

Nope, 10X1 gram capsule assuming a standard dosage of 180 mg epa/120 mg dha

so those 10X1 gram capsules provides 3 grams of actual fish oil.

Thanks for the great info.

I would just like to comment on this:
"My current generic recommendation is the middle level, 10X1 gram capsules per day for 3 grams total fish oil."

I believe you meant to say 3 grams of EFAs ? Obviously 10x1g caps would be 10g of fish oil.
