"Finally I’d note that I’m not going to include the reference list for this excerpt. It’s in the book."

I noticed that the citations used in the article are not listed on this page. I was wondering if you could provide the sources? I would be very interested in reading into some of the topics a little further. Thank you!

Reading through this reminded me of Vince Girondas meal frequency preferences and how on the money he was.. modern bodybuilders would benefit to look at real data like this.

A truly great article, Lyle

It makes me laugh when I see how paranoid some are about catabolism. Some are obsessive about it and insist your muscles will waste away if you don't eat every three hours.

Lyle,

Is there a "need" for use or periodic low protein days in order to prevent diminishing results from a given level of protein intake? e.g. if regularly consuming a set amount of protein on a daily basis, over time does there come a point where you'd actually need to consume more protein just to maintain a given level of muscle mass

Good article as always Lyle.

Still wonder how you could sheet so much pizza dough with a clear conscience!

Anyway, thanks for the thought-provoking and well-substantiated article.

I also look forward to the book by you, Aragon, Berkhan and Fagerli.

yeah i am an IF USER too, and i have the same question as tim, anyway, good article here and i cant wait for your next book of the four horsemen, the best book of "ACTUAL" nutrition of all time because im sick of the old way of the six meal per day pattern, its so sick, you got no life, and everything else and there a lot of other myths today about nutrition so we need a book with the actual nutrition studies, and with 4 view points of experts, like your future work.

So how exactly would this apply to Intermittent Fasting? I'm a big supporter of IF but also like to look at the hard science. The idea of allowing blood AA levels to drop and then rise is possibly similar to IF, only there's one long drop during the fast and one long spike during the feeding window. I would think AA sensitivity might work similar to insulin, in that during the fast you allow the muscles to sensitize to it, then bombard the muscles with it while they are most sensitive to it (to get the greatest nutrient partitioning and therefore the greatest anabolic response).

I'd like to hear more of your take on IF, especially given this information. Great article as always though.
