Just Do the Program
Today is going to be another hopefully short article/rant about another common mistake I make; in fact, it addresses one of my major pet peeves (folks run into this all the time on the support forum). In a certain sense it’s a followup to the piece on Information vs. Application that I posted on Tuesday.
Information vs. Application
This little article is being driven a bit by someone who is either trolling my comments (badly) or just really really really dumb. His comments have basically been ‘reading about ur dogs is boring, pls post more information about fat loss’. I also got one that said ‘pls post more fat loss info, I gained weight over X-mas’. Like I said, trolling or stupid as hell; it doesn’t matter which and often the line between the two is very very thin.
Loretta Update: Merry Christmas
Yes, yes, I know, I’m being part of the Oppressive White Male Hegemony (OHWM) by putting Christmas in the title of this post but you know what, it’s Christmas time so nyah. Anyhow, I wanted to give an update on Loretta today, so that everyone who was nice enough to donate to help her (and my other dogs) as outlined in Volunteering at the Austin Humane Shelter: Thank You will know what’s going on.
Training when Sick – Q&A
Ok, with that out of the way, some commentary on training when sick. This seems especially relevant now that’s it’s winter and people are often carrying around various bugs that they can pass to one another (and I’m not just talking about drunken make out sessions at the office Christmas party that makes everybody uncomfortable the next day).
ALFIE! Part 2
So in ALFIE! Part 1, I gave a relatively quick explanation of how I went from digging a dog (ALFIE!) to adoption in a handful of days. Of course, I’d known ALFIE! for a couple of months, he’s been at the shelter a while. Even when I didn’t get to hang out with him, I’d always treat him and call him ALFIE! when I walked past his cage. It was funny, when I adopted him they asked if I wanted to change his name. Of course not. He’s ALFIE! Why would I change that?
ALFIE! Part 1
You can probably guess what today is going to be about by the title alone; read it all anyhow. Now, those of you who read/remember the entirety of the Volunteering at the Austin Humane Shelter series may remember that i mentioned a BB (blue extreme) dog named Alfie that was one of my current favorites, but that I didn’t ever get to walk him because he was above my level.
Low Fat Loss Response After Medium-Term Supervised Exercise in Obese is Associated with Exercise-Induced Increase in Food Reward – Research Review
Now, in the Training the Obese Beginner series, one comment that I made was that most studies have not found a massive impact on exercise in terms of increasing weight or fat loss and I outlined some of the reasons that was the case (mostly focusing on the generally low calorie burn).
But even there, there are often some confusing things that occur in studies of exercise and weight loss, situations where the deficit created by exercise and the measured weight/fat loss aren’t the same. A long-standing question has been why this is the case and there are a number of reasons for it.
Does the Training Determine the Diet or the Diet Determing the Training?
And since I’m a bit emotionally exhausted from the last week and a half of updates about the dogs, I’m actually going to try to keep this a bit short. The question I want to address today is this: Does the diet determine the training or does the training determine the diet? This isn’t really a direct question that comes up anywhere, but it is ultimately an issue that needs addressing as I hope you’ll soon see.
Volunteering at the Austin Humane Shelter: Thank You
I just want to make a quick post about what happened after last week’s series of articles on Volunteering at The Austin Humane Shelter. I had been last Friday and simply been told that ‘the response to your articles has been amazing’ but I knew no more than that. I knew that a tremendous number of donations had come in and had asked for an overall total so I could thank people later this week.
Volunteering at the Austin Humane Shelter: Part 5
Ok, this is it, the final piece of this series (Part 4 got too long so I split it up) and I want to sum up quickly (and improve my SEO of course) before moving to endgame. In Volunteering at the Austin Humane Shelter: Part 1, I mainly talked about the shelter itself and some of the good work that they do including the volunteer program. In Volunteering at the Austin Humane Shelter Part 2, I introduced you to the idea of color levels for both the dogs and the volunteers. This was all just a setup for the real manipulation I had in mind.
